Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov joined Ambassador Alexander Vershbow to officially open an exhibit called "Here is New York” at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
The exhibit expressed a ."democracy of photographs” according to organizers and was designed to commemorate the victims of 9-11. More than 500 works were featured from the United States and other countries – all demonstrating the impact of the terrorist attacks.
In addition to the mayor and ambassador, the opening was attended by the intellectual elite of Russia – writers, artists and actors. It attracted an enormous amount of attention in all parts of the former Soviet Union. The exhibit was organized by the Russian Ministry of Culture and Academy of Arts.
On loan to the Russian Musuem especially for the exhibit was the September 11 memorial mural, created at Grant Gallery in New York by Noble and six international artists on the six-month anniversary of the tragedy. The painting was signed by former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.
Also showing at the exhibition was a painting donated by Noble, entitled "Gun Shy."
